Ray of Hope Iftar Project 2021

April - May 2021

Iftar, also known as ftoor (from فطور, fuṭūr, 'breakfast'), is the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. They break their fast at the time of the call to prayer for the evening prayer. (from Wikipedia)

This was a first for me - breaking fast with a family I don’t know personally. Yet as evening came, and all the volunteers sat down on the floor with the family, gathering around trays of food, it felt revelatory that such a meal can be such a simple yet intimate affair. The food, conversation and interaction felt like an everyday affair, yet so soul-nourishing.

Kudos to the team at Ray of Hope for the chance to be part of such a heartwarming, community-building project.
